Most Excel personalities can be classified into one of the following groups (see if you recognize yourself):
1. Excel Newbie: I’ve only just started using Excel and need to learn it FAST
2. Emerging Skills: Ive been using Excel for awhile, I’ve never had any training, but now i need to step up my skill level because;
- I’ve got a new job,
- I need a new job,
- I’d like to improve because I’m sure if I do it will open some doors for my career progression
- I’m sure there are things I don’t know that will help me get out of the office before midnight each day and take a lunch break every now and again
3. Excel Long Term: I’ve been using Excel forever, in fact I started with Lotus 1-2-3, but never had any formal training/haven’t done a course in years. I’m sure there are things I don’t know that would;
- Help me get my work done more quickly and easily
- Get noticed for that next promotion
- Stand out from the crowd in job interviews
4. Career Change: I’ve got a new job that requires me to have advanced Excel skills which I thought I had, but now I’m doing the job I realize I’ve got some gaps in my knowledge I need to fill.
5. Excel Boss: I’ve always had people to do the Excel work for me, but now I want to get more hands on so I need to brush up on my Excel skills.
6. Excel Obsessed: I just love Excel and want to learn as much as I can about it. I want to make sure I know all the latest tools like Power Query and Power Pivot. It’s not only rewarding to learn new things, but it will also help me keep on the top of my game and command a premium salary.
7. Consultant: I’m a consultant and the more services I can provide my customers the more I earn, all the while helping them to be more successful in their businesses.
8. Retiree: I’m retired and like to use Excel for for and/or to help the charity I volunteer for. Plus keeping my Excel skills up to date is a great way to keep my brain active.
