Blackbaud Financial Edge Step Allocation Made Simple . . . with BizInsight from BizNet Software.
Step allocation can often be a manual, repetitive process of exporting, cutting, pasting and reformatting. Not so with BizInsight for Blackbaud Financial Edge.
BizNet’s direct connections to FE mean that you can get immediate results by department or fund; by volume of transactions or by numbers of employees or patients served – any attribute – and return non-financial statistical measurements as well as values. With just a click of the mouse. And then drill down into any calculation to examine the numbers behind the numbers.
Then again, allocation is also often as much an art as a science. The simple illustration in this video is intended to give you an idea of how BizInsight can help you identify and calculate allocations against two or even more variables. But how to get these numbers? It happens in three simple steps.
- Establish the basis accounts. In this example, all of the transactions year to date that have not been allocated to any department. BizNet has pre-built functions and is directly connected to all of the tables within Blackbaud Financial Edge. Use the menu-driven BizInsight Query Editor to add precise filters and get just the numbers you need.
- List the pool accounts for allocation … and then
- Drag, drop and configure a BizInsight SuperFunction to derive the allocation variables for the year and period.
All of the columns within each table – and all of the values – are available for filtering. In this instance we need a count of the number of transactions for each department. Notice the variety of available operators, including Like, IN and NOT IN.
Also notice how BizInsight works seamlessly with native Excel, allowing flash-fill for the SuperFunctions and dynamic charting. The actual allocation by account is a natural fit for Excel, with simple formulas determining the percentage and resulting burden for each.
BizInsight can also help you automate the process of exporting the allocations by department back to Financial Edge. Just map the values for each allocation back to the appropriate department, fund or project and follow the same steps you use today.
BizInsight delivers a reusable, portable reporting solution that also works with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, other databases, and even Excel data sources. Talk to your Blackbaud representative – or try it today at http://www.biznetsoftware.com/available-systems/blackbaud-fe/.
